Jim Owensby (Mercer College), 1972-73 Governor

April 1972 – “Georgia Kiwanis 12th Division Lt. Governor Bond Fleming (r), Oxford College dean, was awarded “We Appreciate You”-engraved watch from grateful students headed by Nancy Burrell and Bo Platt, Pres. of Oxford Circle K Club which helped raise money.”  (The Georgia Kiwanian)

November 1972 – New Circle K Club:  “A new Circle K Club has been organized at Piedmont College.  It all began when members of the Circle K District Board received an invitation from Dr. Clarence Carder, Dean of the College, to appear before the student body to tell the story of Circle K.  On the program were Governor Art Smith, Lt. Governor Stan Lovell, Secretary Bill Bozeman, Aubrey Motz, Kiwanis sponsor from the Cornelia Club, Kiwanis Lt. Governor Louis Markham and District Chairman of Circle K, John Thompson.

“After the assembly program, a number of interested students met to discuss Circle K at Piedmont College.  Enthusiasm was high and the date of May 8 was set for the organizational meeting.

“Officers were elected and the Charter President is Hilda Fry.  Circle K looks for great things to come inspired by her charm, leadership and concern for people.  Their first project will be ‘Walk for Mankind.’”  (The Georgia Kiwanian)

February 6, 1973 – Co-eds in Club?:  “WOMEN IN CIRCLE K?? Yes, now it’s official.  The Board of Trustees of Kiwanis International has given formal approval to the induction of women students as members of Circle K.
