Deborah Dewberry (Berry College), 1988-89 Governor
November/December 1988 – Dr. Robert D. Hayes, District Governor writes in “Bob’s By Line” about Hurricane Gilbert that hit Jamaica this fall. He wants Georgia Kiwanians to help the Jamaicans return to a productive life by making contributions to the Hurricane Gilbert Disaster Relief Fund. “The Governor of Circle K, Deborah Dewberry, and I have agreed that it would be a fantastic project for Kiwanis and Circle K to do joint fund raisers to support this cause. Can you raise more money than the Circle K bunch? Let me know.”
April 1989 – Gower Keynotes Y’All Conference: “The Georgia District Circle K hosted the 11th meeting of the Y’all Conference. The conference attracted delegates from several districts including Alabama, Capitol, Carolinas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky-Tennessee, Louisiana-Mississippi-West Tennessee and West Virginia. The conference provides an opportunity to “learn more about Circle K and yourself.” The session was held at the Unicoi Convention Center located in the mountains of North Georgia near the picturesque village of Helen.
“Stephen Gower, current District Chairman of Education and Membership and a Past Lt. Governor from Toccoa, led off with keynote address entitled, ‘Where Have All the Callouses Gone?’ In addition he led three sessions with discussions entitled ‘The Art of Killing Kudzu’, ‘Traveling by Detour’, and ‘Bouncing into 1989.’
“Georgia Circle K Governor Deborah Dewberry termed the conference a total success and thought it provided the Circle Kers with thought provoking messages which will enable them to cope with their community leadership roles.” (The Georgia Kiwanian)
